How To Install Actions

Freeway Actions are easy to install and use. Here’s how to do it in Freeway Pro 4 or 5.

Most Actions can be installed by double-clicking the Action’s icon when in the Finder.

Some special Actions require that you manually add a folder of support files, in those cases, the developer will usually make this very clear in a READ ME file or support document.

Troubleshooting

Occasionally, you will encounter an Action that Freeway won’t accept on its own. Here are a few things you can look for.

Is the Action compressed? Some Actions are delivered as Zip or Stuffit archives, to allow them to be treated as a single file when they actually contain more than one file, or simply to force a download. If the file won’t load into Freeway, try double-clicking it to see if it decompresses.

Does the Action have the correct file-type extension? Freeway 3 used the .act3 file-type extension for Actions, and previous versions of Freeway didn’t use them at all. If you can’t get the Action to load into Freeway, try changing (or adding) the .fwaction extension to the filename. Often this is all it takes to make it work.

When All Else Fails

If you downloaded an Action from this site or any other, you may discover that it is nothing but a plain text file. In fact, that’s all that most Actions are. When you install Freeway, it registers the .fwaction and .fwactionb file types with Mac OS X as “belonging” to it. But sometimes this association can be lost or corrupted. In that case, you will need to drag the Action over the Dock icon of Freeway (while it’s running). This will force Freeway to load the Action.
